Stun Gun Used On Teenager By Deputy

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

WEST BEND – The Washington County Sheriff’s department said Wednesday it had to twice fire stun guns in attempting to subdue an 18-year-old man it determined to be “uncontrollable.”

The incident happened at about 9:10 a.m. Monday morning at the Acute Care Services office of the Washington County Public Agency Center on East Washington Street in West Bend.

According to the sheriff’s department, workers there told the Sheriff’s Department that the man was there and needed to be placed in custody because of “his mental state.”

Authorities say deputies had gone to his home Sunday night when family members were fearing “for their physical safety.” He apparently had not been taking what was called “necessary medication.”

Deputies took him to his father’s home.

When they arrived at the ACS building Monday, deputies found the teenager “causing a disturbance,” but not threatening physical violence.

After more deputies and a lieutenant came to the scene, the teenager reportedly tried to leave the room.

Deputies attempted to restrain and handcuff the man, but he still allegedly struggled to break away.

Sheriff’s officials say that after a deputy warned him that they would use a stun gun on him, the teenager continued to try to resist.

At that point, the deputy reportedly first used a stun gun, which did not reach him.

According to authorities, the man then went into a conference room and took what they described as a “fighting stance.”

Deputies then demanded that he lie on the floor, but he did not follow through on their request.

That’s when, authorities say, they used a second stun gun on him, which eventually stopped the teenager.

They then took him into custody.

According to the Sheriff’s department, no one was arrested.

Man Use Pepper Spray On Police

Monday, February 27th, 2012

I’m a strong advocate of Pepper Spray. I recommend it for more customers. However, I don’t recommend that anyone use it on the police. This man had to know that things were not going to work out for him to well when it use pepper spray on the police.

Read Story:

PROVIDENCE — A Providence man has been charged with assaulting two police officers for allegedly pepper-spraying them with their department-issued pepper spray, during a disturbance outside Club Ultra on Friendship Street early Saturday morning, according to a police report.

Edward Soe, 37, allegedly grabbed the pepper spray away from the police; they then sprayed him in return as they attempted to arrest him, the report says.

They also struck Soe with their hands and batons as they struggled to gain control over Soe, the report says.

Soe was treated at Roger Williams Medical Center for a cut on his forehead. He was also charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault.

“A hostile crowd gathered around police, surrounding them during the incident,” at approximately 1:30 in the morning.

Stun Gun Taser Stop Burglar Suspect

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Glynn County police used a Taser stun device to take down a burglary suspect Thursday night on St. Simons Island.

Police arrested Nathaniel Jerome Ramsey, 53, of St. Simons Island after a homeowner reported someone was inside his garage at 125 Colonial Drive at about 8:45 p.m., Police Capt. Jim Kelly said.

A report on the incident was not complete Friday, so Kelly did not have full details about how Ramsey allegedly entered the garage.

An officer spotted Ramsey walking nearby and tried to talk with him, but Ramsey allegedly ran, Kelly said.

After Ramsey failed to stop when the officer told him to, the officer fired his Taser, which projects two probes that attach to the subject and deliver an electric charge.

“The officer deployed a Taser to stop him, and they arrested him. He had a bag with him that had pliers, wire cutters and other items. Given the circumstances, we called them burglary tools,” Kelly said.

Ramsey was taken to the Glynn County Detention Center and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and obstructing officers, according to jail records. His bond is set at $3,935.

Pharmacist Spray Robber With Bear Spray

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

A pharmacist took matters into her own hands when a serial drug thief came back for a third time looking for Oxycodone and Methadone.

Pharmacy manager Susan Beller gave alleged thief Aaron Miller more than he bargained for – a face full of pepper spray intended to stop grizzly bear attacks.
Security footage shows Miller putting an arm up to stop the attack before he runs out of the Deer Park, Washington Medicine Shoppe.

Demands: Alleged their Aaron Miller demanded all the Oxycodone and Methadone from the Deer Park, Washington pharmacy

Surprise: Instead, pharmacy manager Susan Beller doused the would-be thief with pepper spray meant to ward off grizzly bear attacks

Keep away: The pepper spray carries a warning that it is not for use on humans.

Ms Beller told NBC affiliate KHQ that Miller had robbed the pharmacy twice before. Tired of being the victim, she took matters into her own hands.

The deciding factor for me is, I know how far away law enforcement is here from Deer Park,’ she told KHQ. ‘I know that we are kind of going to have to take care of ourselves.’

When the robber came back, he pushed a note on the counter that read: ‘Gun. Give me all your Oxycodone and Methadone.’
Security footage shows Ms Beller reaching for something out of view of the camera. But rather than delivering the drugs, she gave him a hefty dose of pepper spray meant to deter grizzly bears.

‘It’s called grizzly spray and it’s kind of high potency shots a long distance in a great big can for bears,’ she told kxly.com.
Prescription vigilante: Susan Beller said since the police are far from her store, she took matters into her own hands

Robbed: Miller confessed to robbing this Spokane-area Medicine Shoppe twice before, both times in December
Miller ran out of Medicine Shoppe and back to his parents’ house. Ms Beller and another employee –who was carrying a baseball bat – chased him out.

At home, Miller’s parents called the paramedics because they thought he was worse for the wear.
That led police straight to Miller, where they arrested him.
Miller is currently booked in the Spokane County Jail on $100,000 bond and is charged with first degree robbery, and two second degree robberies.
Future reference: Medicine Shoppe employees kept a police sketch of Miller at the pharmacy in case he returned

He’s scheduled to be arraigned next week.
According to KHQ, Miller confessed to detectives two robberies last year – one on December 7 and the other on December 30, both times demanding the entire stock of Oxycodone and Methadone.
Ms Beller, meanwhile, has a new nickname from her Medicine Shoppe co-workers – Momma Bear.

Protect Yourself Don’t Be Afraid

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Because I work in the Self Defense Industry, I talk to so many people that are afraid. They walk on around in fear and don’t know how to protect themselves. They are afraid in their homes. They are afraid at work. They are afraid when they walk to their cars. They are afraid even when they go to the grocery stories as well as the ATM machines. However, I understand their fear because we live in a society that can be very violent especially for women.

Nevertheless, a great deal of the fear and intimidation comes from not being knowledgeable about self defense and being unprepared. There are several things a you can do to increase your confidence and protect yourself from criminals and dangers that may be lurking around the corner.

1. You can take awareness and self defense classes.

2. You can invest in a handgun and handgun safety course.

3. You can invest in Non-Lethal weapons of self defense such as stun guns, tasers, pepper sprays and personal alarms.

4. You should try not go to places alone. If you do have to go alone, you should stay in places that are lighted. Furthermore, you should always tell someone where you are going.

5. You should always park in a lighted area. If you are leaving a building that has security, you should have security to walk you to your car. Also, you should not be on the cellular phone talking to someone while you are walking to your car. You should be aware, and you should have your keys in your hand.

However, I think the best way for a person to prepare themselves against dangerous situations and criminals is to invest in a stun gun, taser or pepper spray. These weapons are very effective. They are use by law enforcement agencies all over the world. They have a track record for working. They don’t cost as much as investing in a self defense class or owning a handgun. These types of weapons are easy to use and they are legal in most states. They don’t require alot of training. Furthermore, the liablilty with these weapons are not as great as the liability with a handgun.

These types of weapons allow a victim to take down their attacker without killing the attacker. These types of weapons give you the opportunity to get away from an attacker to a place of safety so that you can contact the police. They will give you the opportunity to have the advantage or upper hand over a ciminal. They don’t require a license. These weapons have the potential to bring your attacker alot of pain. This is what you want when someone is trying to attack you.

Even if you don’t have to use one of these weapons, you will have a peace of mind knowing you have it with you for your protection. Most of these weapons are easy to hide and conceal. Your attacker want even no you have them so when you use them your attacker will be surprised. So protect yourself, you don’t have to be afraid. All you have to do is be prepared. So invest in a Self Defense Device Today. Stay Safe!

Student Uses Pepper Spray Elementary School

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Children at an elementary school received a lesson in the danger of messing with pepper spray Tuesday, when one student sprayed the gas in the direction of two others.

Nobody was injured in the 1 p.m. incident at Wren Avenue Elementary School, police said. Officers responding to the school learned one 11-year-old student brought a small amount of pepper spray to the school and exposed two classmates to it while playing with the spray during the noon recess, Concord police Lt. David Hughes said in an e-mail.

Medical personnel were called to the school as a precaution, Hughes said, but the students were given a clean bill of health. Parents of the affected students were called and picked up their children at the school, Hughes said.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the incident was an accident.

Police Use Taser On Columbus Man

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Police used a Taser twice on a Columbus man to subdue him after he allegedly stole a pickup truck, drove it under the influence of pain medication and fought with an officer.

Kevin L. Smith, 36, was arrested Monday night near 25th Street and Marr Road after an officer saw a pickup truck drive over the grass and a sidewalk from an apartment complex in the area.

Columbus Police Department Patrolman Toby Combest followed the pickup truck into a driveway, and Smith got out of the vehicle and ran, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the police department.

Combest chased down Smith and used his Taser to subdue him after a scuffle during which Smith allegedly refused to follow orders.

Smith continued to fight after being hit by the Taser until Combest used the stun gun again on him and placed Smith in handcuffs. Combest found a large pocketknife in Smith’s pants pocket during a search, Myers said.

Smith allegedly told police he ran because he legally was not allowed to drive and that he had taken pain medication before the incident.

Police determined Smith did not own the pickup truck he was driving, and the owner told Patrolwoman Sarah Goins that Smith did not have permission to drive it.

Smith was evaluated at Columbus Regional Hospital and then booked into Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of motor vehicle theft, resisting law enforcement, driving a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, driving while suspended and a Johnson County warrant.

Stun Gun Attack At Kroger

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

A man accused of shoplifting from a Fort Wayne Kroger store and using a stun gun on a security employee has been arrested in a nearby neighborhood.

Billye D. Gaulden, 36, of Fort Wayne, was caught late Monday after a short foot pursuit in the 900 block of McKinnie Avenue, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The statement said Crime Stoppers received many calls from people who said they could identify the man and a female accomplice.

It said Gaulden has been preliminarily charged with felony robbery, unlawful use of a stun gun, resisting law enforcement and failure to appear on a criminal trespassing charge.

Police said they were called to the store at 218 E. Pettit Ave. shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday. There they learned the employee was shot with the stun gun after confronting a man and a woman who were concealing store items.

The statement said the man involved used the stun gun and then both fled the Southgate Plaza store.

The woman was initially described as being about 5 feet tall and 20 to 25 years old. She was last seen wearing a black coat, and carrying a purple backpack and a light-colored purse.

Police said the woman remains at large and officers have yet to determine her level of involvement.

This is not Gaulden’s first brush with the law. In 2005, he was sentenced to prison for trying to rob a motel at gunpoint in the summer of 2004, according to The Journal Gazette’s archives. They indicate he also had five misdemeanor and four felony convictions from 1995 to 2005.

According to court documents, Gaulden brandished a black semiautomatic handgun at Travelodge, 4606 E. Washington Blvd., and demanded money from the motel manager about 10:15 a.m. July 27, 2004.

Gaulden fired a shot at the manager but it missed him, records said. Gaulden ran to the parking lot and continued to wave a handgun at the manager, who was following, records said. Gaulden drove off, but the manager gave police the license plate number, court documents said.
